A TIP is required for foreign-flagged yachts to stay in Mexican waters.

Mexican law requires all vessels (commercial or private) to present entry and exit reports between Mexican ports to the harbor master’s offices of each port, so once you have cleared the yacht into Mexico, you simply report to the local Port Captain at each stop along the way.

Yes. With a valid TIP, you can keep your yacht in Mexico for up to 10 years without paying import duties, as long as it’s not used for commercial purposes.

When clearing properly out of Mexico, you will be given the vessel’s clearance. This is a requirement to cancel the vessel’s TIP. Make sure you save and scan this properly, you will need it in the future.
